We love October 10 and we tell you why
Perhaps not a well-known day for many, but for us one of the best days of the year: The Day of the Handbag. I don't think we need to explain why this is one of our favorite days.
Nowadays everything you can think of has an (inter)national day, and we wouldn't be L'Étoile Luxury Vintage if we didn't celebrate October 10. In addition to accessories from luxury brands, our brand is all about bags. In today's blog we celebrate the existence of the bag, so be prepared! Because today will be an imaginative and festive blog, with a little surprise at the end!
Brief history of 'the bag'
Bags are not a new invention. As long as humans exists we carry bags with us. Several brands have made bags all over the world. The drawstring purse was worn dangling from a belt by both men and women from at least the time of ancient Rome through the Renaissance and beyond. However, the women's handbag as we know it is a much more recent development in the long, humble history of the bags. The term handbag was first used in the early 1900s and generally refers to portable luggage bags commonly carried by men.
The beginning of Louis Vuitton bags and Chanel bags
Now it's time to tell you short about our favorite designer brands, where they all started and how they got started. Let's start with Louis Vuitton. One of our favorite brands and from which we have a lot of preloved unique bags. Monsieur Vuitton started out as a trunk maker. At some point, Louis Vuitton also started making bags. Louis Vuitton Keepall was introduced as a bag that fits everything you need to take with you, but is lightweight and easy to take with you on holiday. Later, the smaller version of the Keepall was introduced, the Speedy. Read in this blog everything about the history of fashion house Louis Vuitton.
Around the age of 18, Coco became interested in fashion. It all started in 1909. When she was the mistress of a businessman named Étienne Balsan, he gave her the financial support she needed to open a hat shop in Paris. Eventually she opened more stores, where she also started making clothes. The house of Chanel was officially born. Coco once told author Paul Morand that her first taste of "clothing success" came from a dress she made from an old sweater. Many people asked her where she bought the dress, and her answer was the offer to make the same dress for them. Coco's designs have always been simple, yet elegant. She focused on women's taste for elegance, with blouses, suits, trousers and dresses, keeping an emphasis on simplicity. In addition, she used many colors, such as navy blue and gray, which were considered more masculine at the time. All this made Coco Chanel different from all other designers in the 19th century, as this was a time full of luxurious, over-designed and oppressive clothing.
