The most iconic Louis Vuitton backpack

One of the most popular backpacks in the early 00’s, the Louis Vuitton Montsouris. Nowadays, you’ll only be able to find this timeless backpack on the vintage market. This doesn’t make the Montsouris any less popular, it’s still in high demand and often seen on the back of celebrities as well!

Parc Montsouris is one of the largest green spaces in Paris, France. The beautiful parc is a favorite walking spot of many Parisians, so no wonder that it’s also the name inspiration behind a Louis Vuitton bag. The Montsouris backpack by Louis Vuitton was designed in the late 90’s, and gained popularity in the early 00’s.

Design of the bag

The Louis Vuitton Montsouris backpack is another Louis Vuitton bag that is best known in the timeless brown monogram coated canvas. The Montsouris is the perfect bag for any man or woman who likes to keep their hands free while carrying a bag. This backpack has a big spacious main compartment that closes with a drawstring and a buckle closure. On the inside there’s a slip-in pocket, while the outside has an extra pocket that can be closed with a zipper. All details and trims are made with cowhide leather, while all the hardware is gold-colored, and of course it has adjustable straps which makes it very comfortable to wear.

Different sizes of the bag

The Louis Vuitton Montsouris backpack is available in three different sizes; the Montsouris PM, the Montsouris MM, and Montsouris GM. The MM and GM are most commonly seen, while the PM (also called the Mini Montsouris) is harder to come by. The three different models vary widely in size, making them completely different bags from each other. Because the GM is much bigger than the Mini or the MM, it comes with different straps. Both the Mini and the MM have straps completely made from vachetta leather, while the straps on the GM are so called web straps. These straps are wider, and made from a more cloth-like material. These different straps make this big bag more comfortable to wear.

The 2017 redesign

To everyone’s surprise Louis Vuitton decided to reintroduce the extremely desired Montsouris backpack for their Fall Winter collection of 2017. This reintroduction came paired with a little redesign, giving the bag a modern, chic and more feminine look. The main differences are; the hidden front pocket, the longer drawstring, and the bottom that’s entirely made from canvas instead of the vachetta leather. The redesigned Montsouris is also only available in one size, which is most comparable with the vintage Montsouris MM.
