History of the bag: Prada Vela backpack

History of the bag: Prada Vela backpack

A backpack that can call herself an "IT-bag"

The Prada bag we all know about: the nylon Prada backpack. And if you don’t know, now you need to know. Because this backpack is not some regular one. It is one of the "it bags". We are already a big fan of it, are you?

History of this Prada backpack

The brand Prada has been running for years by the Prada family, and started their brand with leather goods and luggage. After Miuccia Prada took over the company, she introduced a line that has been made of leather, combined with nylon. Everybody went crazy when the products were launched, but eventually this nylon product line became very popular.

Miuccia Prada designed the nylon backpack in 1984, Also called: “the Vela”. It was a backpack available in black and brown, that has been made by water resistant nylon called ‘pocone’. Pocone is also known as a fabric that is used for army tents. It represents the designer’s nomadic and the functional use of the bag, combined with a designer touch.

The continuation of the backpack

Nowadays, this iconic backpack is made in different colors and sizes. The Vela is decorated with the iconic triangular Prada logo and the bag is light-weighted, but stylish. It isn't only important that the bag is beautiful, but also meets the utility of fashion. In our opinion, this backpack represents fashion-meets-function and is essential in any girl's closet.

Miuccia told The New Yorker in 1990 her thoughts behind the design:

“I want always to mix the industrial way of doing things, with the patrimonio of the past, with the artisanal tradition.”

We do not always have a beautiful Prada Vela Backpack in our collection, unfortunately. But if you have any bag requests or just want to know the availability, don't hesitate and send us a message!

With love Naomi
