What a dream, what a dream, to have a designer bag named after you

What makes a fashion icon a fashion icon? This question has several answers, but one we can all agree on is that you have your own namesake bag. Because how much higher can you go after that? We are talking about celebrities like Lady Diana, Jane Birkin and many others. Ready to discover the meaning behind the name of your favorite designer bags?

Hermès Birkin Bag

One of the most iconic and sought after bags due to its limited stock, the "Birkin" bag is named after the British actress Jane Birkin. The bag was designed in 1984 by the chief of Hermès, thanks to the accidental meeting with the actress when they were on a flight from Paris to London. Sitting side by side, Birkin shared her desire for a bag that could hold all her essentials, and together with the chief of Hermès they designed the "Birkin" that we all know and love.

Hermès Kelly Bag

Another favorite, classic and iconic Hermès bag is the one and only "Kelly" bag, named after the American actress and Princess Grace Kelly. But to everyone's surprise, the Hermès bag was not named after her initially. Kelly first fell in love with the bag on the set of an Albert Hitchcock movie, and later popularized the bag by wearing it on occasions such as her engagement to the Prince of Monaco and during her pregnancy. Finally, in 1977, the iconic Hermès bag was renamed after the Hollywood star.

Dior Lady Dior

The "Lady Dior" remains to this day one of Dior's most relevant and beloved bags among their fans. Like the Hermès Kelly bag, this bag was not initially named after a celebrity. Given as a gift from the French first lady to Princess Diana in 1995, the princess immediately fell in love with it and ordered every available version. After being spotted with it on numerous outings, the bag became a synonym of Princess Diana, which is why the name of the bag was changed to "Lady Dior".

Gucci Jackie

Originally named Fifties Constance, this timeless Gucci bag was later renamed after Jackie Kennedy really liked (I mean LOVED) the bag. The first lady was often seen carrying herself with the Gucci bag and protecting herself from the paparazzi, making it only fitting to name it after her. With its iconic half moon silhouette, the "Jackie" has been brought back and redesigned by Gucci time and time again.

As if "Lady Dior" wasn't enough, Princess Diana also had another favorite designer bag, this time designed by the luxury house of Gucci. The bag was often spotted in the hands of Lady Diana in the 90s. An iconic photo of the princess was when she left Chelsea's Harbor Gym wearing her must-have biker shorts, a sporty sweatshirt and of course the Gucci Diana bag, the perfect accessory to complete the look.
