History of the bag: Gucci Jackie bag

Gucci Jackie bag and the new Gucci Jackie bag

One of Gucci's most iconic bags

The Gucci Jackie bag is designed in the 50’s and is definitely one of Gucci’s most iconic bags. Originally the bag was designed as a unisex model, but soon it grew into a beloved ladies’ bag.

Where does the name of the bag come from?

At first the Gucci bag was called ‘The Constance’. In 1964, Mrs. Kennedy was spotted carrying the bag and afterwards it became an instant hit. She liked the bag so much, she bought six of them. She was the most stylish lady ever and was a huge fashion icon at that time. So it is not a surprise, that she was a big influencer for fashion lovers. As a tribute to Jacqueline Kennedy, Gucci changed the name of the bag to the 'Jackie'.

The continuation of the Gucci Jackie bag

The Jackie was the first hobo bag ever. It resembled the bohemian style, which was very popular during the sixties and seventies.

The ‘New Jackie’ was introduced in 2009 by creative director Frida Giannini. Which is, as they say, a better version. A few years ago the bag got renamed: The Bouvier. The real Jackie-fans recognize this name as the maiden name of Jacqueline Kennedy.
