History of the bag

After Coco Chanel introduced “handsfree” handbags with her iconic 2.55, many fashion houses started to design their own, so did Louis Vuitton. After reinventing their classic canvas material in 1959, Louis Vuitton started making smaller items and so they designed some amazing crossbody bags. One of the older crossbody bags is the Louis Vuitton Saint Cloud. A perfect everyday bag, which can also be worn on the shoulder.

On the vintage market you will be able to find the Saint Cloud without the date code that all modern Louis Vuitton bags have. This means that it was originally made prior to 1980. Like many other bags, the Saint Cloud is named after a place. This time, a district in North-West Paris, France.

Design of the bag

The simple and classic Louis Vuitton Saint Cloud is one of the house’s favorites. The square-shaped bag can be opened with a large flap, which can be locked using a press stud. The interior is made of terracotta cross-grain leather, there is one big compartment, and the bag wall has a pocket that can be closed with a zipper. On the back of there is an exterior slip-in pocket, that gives you easy access to smaller items like your phone. The strap on the Saint Cloud is long, adjustable, and comes with a shoulder pad for extra grip. This makes it possible for the bag to be comfortably worn as a crossbody or shoulder bag.

Originally, the bag is crafted from the classic and iconic Louis Vuitton monogram coated canvas. This is the design that you will probably see most often. In the Spring/Summer 2007 collection, Louis Vuitton released the Saint Cloud in Epi leather which has been available ever since (until the bag was discontinued).
