History of the bag: Louis Vuitton Trocadéro

The Louis Vuitton Trocadéro bag

The Louis Vuitton Trocadéro, one of our bestselling crossbody bags, owes its name to La Place du Trocadéro in Paris, possibly the square with the best view on the famous Eiffel tower. It's a sleek and sporty looking crossbody bag, perfect for everyday use. We believe the Trocadéro was first designed around the 1980’s, so it has been around for a while.

The design of the bag

The Trocadéro bag is a simple bag that hasn’t changed a lot since it’s first release. The simplicity is probably what makes it a popular Louis Vuitton bag for women and men. The bag is rectangle-shaped and consists of one big compartment, which is closed with a zipper. There are two additional pockets. One smaller pocket with a zipper on the inside, and one slip-in pocket on the outside with the same width as the bag itself. The bag is carried with a fixed shoulder strap made of Vachetta leather, which can be adjusted to your preferred length. The strap has around six different settings in length, depending on the size of the bag.

The most common design in which the Trocadéro can be found is the timeless Louis Vuitton Monogram print. This design comes with leather details and gold-plated hardware. Newer versions of the bag can be found in another one of Louis Vuittons classic materials: Epi leather. This type of leather can be dyed all the way through, making the Trocadéro available in several different colors; green, blue, black, red, yellow... There will definitely be something that you’ll like!

The sizes of the bag

The Trocadéro is available in three different models. The names of these models; Trocadéro 23, Trocadéro 27, and Trocadéro 30 reflect the width of the bag in centimeters. These three models are almost identical, apart from the size. The difference in size does make a big variation in how much the bag can carry, and thus for what purposes the bags can be used.

The measurements of the bags are:

Trocadéro 23 Trocadéro 27   Trocadéro 30
23 x 15 x 6 CM 27 x 17 x 7 CM 30 x 20 x 8 CM

Redesigned Trocadéro

Nowadays, the original Trocadéro can’t be bought new anymore. The Louis Vuitton website still offers a Trocadéro messenger bag in size NM PM and size MM. However, just in Damier Graphite canvas. This model has two compartments, as well as pockets on the in- and outside. The NM PM is great for everyday use, while the MM can carry more, and is seen as a travel bag. This Trocadéro Messenger bag is advertised as a Louis Vuitton bag for men, but can of course also be worn by women.

Measurements of the new Trocadéro bags:

Trocadéro NM PM   Trocadéro MM
29 x 21 x 8 CM 33.5 x 24.7 x 9 CM

Even though it isn’t possible to buy a new original Trocadéro anymore, there are amazing pieces available on the vintage market. Are you ready to find your perfect Louis Vuitton Trocadéro? We almost always have some in our stores! You can check our availability via this link.
